Knowles Rehabilitation can help you find Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Relief.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition that causes pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand. The condition occurs when the median nerve, one of the major nerves to the forearm and hand, is impinged as it travels through the wrist. There are two common ways Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can occur, both are from overuse.

What Causes Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

The two pads on the palm of your hand get so tight they pull the carpal ligament too tight and the tunnel collapses onto the median nerve, causing pain and numbness in the hand. The second way is an overuse of the muscles on the front of the forearm, the flexors. The tendons of the flexors run through the carpal tunnel along with the median nerve. If the flexors become overused, it causes their tendons to become inflamed. The inflamed tendons take up more space than normal tendons. Since two things cannot occupy the same space at the same time, the nerve has less room, and becomes impinged. This pressure causes the wrist to swell due to inflammation and irritation.

How do I know if I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

If you are experiencing numbness or tingling of the middle three fingers of the hand, pain in the wrist and hand, and the inability to grasp and hold objects due to weakness, then you may have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.  It can easily be identified through a physical examination. The good news is you do not have to live with the pain due to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. You can experience Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Relief by releasing the flexor muscles, as well as the muscles in the hand, the pain and numbness will go away.

How to find relief

The key to finding relief from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is finding what caused the condition in the first place. Is it a job-related repetitive motion, like using a keyboard and mouse a lot? Maybe it was just a slip and fall, and you used your hand to brace yourself. Accident-related trauma is much easier to treat. After you have healed from the trauma, the carpal tunnel symptoms dissipate. The repetitive motions injuries take a little more work.  Since it is due to repetitive daily tasks, that you will most likely continue to do, it will be important to do daily stretching of those muscles, in order to keep the symptoms away for good.  Most healthcare professionals, in physical medicine, could help an individual come up with an appropriate treatment and stretching plan to alleviate the pain and keep it away.
